WINNIPEG - After a half century of nightmares, Winnipegger Archie Motkaluk, 70, has finally revealed the secret behind his decades of sleepless nights.
Christmas Day at home on Lipton Street, with all the family around him, Archie brought out a book containing handwritten notes and a drawing of the Sasquatch he had a very up close and personal encounter with back on December 29, 1960. One by one, the family took Archie's book into a room adjoining their dining room, and read details of the day Archie clearly remembers standing face to face, eight feet away from a female Sasquatch in the bush near Swan River, Manitoba, and wondering what was going to happen next.
Home for Christmas from attending school in Winnipeg, Archie was visiting his parents farm near Renwer, Manitoba (south east of Swan River) and had taken a team of horses and the sleigh to go chop some wood three miles or so into the bush back of the farm.
With the horses tied to some nearby brush, axe in hand, 10:30 a.m., Archie was chopping deadfall when about 400 yards across the clearing he was in, he spotted what he believed to be a man slowly heading his way, stopping every few minutes to examine the bushes. Wasn't quite sure what the guy was up to, but by the time the "man" got within a hundred yards or so, Archie realized his visitor was a Sasquatch, who, shortly after, confronted Archie in a manner that left him literally frozen in place till the fear subsided enough for both him and the Sasquatch to take a few steps back.
So why did he wait 50 years to tell his story? Seems Archie was recently watching a television program in which the guest declared there is no such thing as a Sasquatch, and Archie just couldn't let it go. He decided regardless of the outcome, it was time to share his experience.
His description of the event is fascinating, particularly when he details the physical appearance, and behaviour of his somewhat nerve-wracking forest friend.
Archie tells me the only person he ever told of his encounter was his mother upon arriving home that day, who got him to sit down and draw a picture of it, the same picture he displays at the front of his notebook, now featured beside a Sasquatch pic one of his grandchildren got online.
Following the interview with Archie, I called University of Manitoba Science writer Chris Rutkowski, to ask if he was aware of any other Sasquatch sightings reported from the area. He recalled Sasquatch sightings at Easterville in 1968 and 1970, one of them reported by a school principal.
Googling Manitoba Sasquatch sightings I also found another report, this one on video, from March of 2007 near Peguis.
So now, Archie's tale, as with all other reported sightings of Sasquatch/Loch Ness monster type experiences, is yours to believe, or not; dismiss or discuss; mock, or chock up as yet further proof that Sasquatch lives, and walks the woods of Friendly Manitoba.

PSICAN - Paranormal Studies & Investigations Canada
Archie Motkaluk is a Canadian born to Ukrainian parents, although much of their immigration paperwork says “Austria Galicia”. His father immigrated in 1903 and was already married. Archie is one of 11 children in this family. The family farmed near Renwer, Manitoba, which is about 20 miles from the nearest “larger” town, Swan River. Swan River had about 3000 people in 1960.
Archie’s father had arthritis and found farming quite difficult. All of the children were expected to help. After his high school graduation, Archie spent two years mining in Thompson, Manitoba. Thompson is about center in Manitoba, while Renwer/Swan River is near the Saskatchewan line and further south—at about the same Latitude as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The farms were laid out east to west about a mile wide for each property. The property then extended several miles. Archie recalls that there were about 8 farms, and all backed onto the “Crown Land” Boreal Forest. This forest separates the tundra of the north from the deciduous forests of the south. It is about 1000 km wide and stretches from the westernmost part of Newfoundland through to the Yukon/Alaskan border. It is a vast amount of Canada’s land mass, yet only houses 14% of the population. The northern part of the Boreal Forest is quite cold and has fewer trees, the size of which gets smaller the further north you go until reaching the tundra.
The area of the Boreal Forest where Renwer is located is rich in natural resources, and heavily forested. Species populations currently found there probably began about 5000 years ago, well after the retreat of the Wisconsin Ice Sheet. Regions are largely uniformly grown; mass amounts of flora damaged in cyclical disasters like fire or insect manifestation. These naturally occurring events would wipe out widespread areas, then the areas would all regenerate at about the same time. Prior to modern man settling there, the cycles were 75 to 100 years, and in some areas that is still the case. Deforestation due to humans has been minimal across Canada in these regions, although it does occur. Currently, the Canadian Boreal Forest is still 91% of what it was prior to European encroachment.
Fauna in the area include shrubs, mosses, and lichens. Willow, alder, blueberry, red-osier dogwood, and honeysuckle, produce bright-coloured or conspicuous berries that attract fruit-eating birds and provide food for mammals.
The Canadian Boreal Forest is populated with thousands of living creatures. It is a breeding ground for over 12 million water fowl and millions of land birds as diverse as vultures, hawks, grouse, doves, cuckoos, owls, nighthawks, swifts, hummingbirds, kingfishers, woodpeckers and passerines. There are 1.5 million lakes in Canada’s Boreal Forest and large boreal lakes have cold water species of fish like trout and whitefish, while in warmer waters, species include northern pike, walleye and smallmouth bass. There are about 130 different species of fish in the area. This forest shelters more than 85 species of mammals, including wood bison, elk, moose, woodland caribou, grizzly and black bears, and wolves as well as smaller species, such as beavers, snowshoe hares, Canada lynx, red squirrels, lemmings, and voles. The snowshoe hare is the most ecologically important as it is food source for many of the local predators (both mammals and birds) and feeds on the forest’s various plants and shrubs. It is estimated that 32,000 insect species are present, although about one third of these species have yet to be described. Several are particularly well adapted to their habitat-- black fire beetles have infrared sensing organs on their bodies that allow them to track the heat of forest fires as they search for freshly burned trees on which to lay their eggs; the white-spotted sawyer beetle use their long antennae to sense chemicals in smoke and charcoal to achieve the same goal. These two beetle species are an important part of the diet of several bird species commonly found in burned forests. Aside from the farmers at the very south edge of the forest, the area is home to about 80% of Aboriginal peoples in Canada.
At this point, not much damage has occurred due to issues like population, pollution, flooding for hydro power, mining and drilling, or climate change. These things do happen, but it is usually much localized and the government, both national and provincial, are starting to take steps toward regulation and preservation. One of the most intensive studies is that of the permafrost thaw and how that will affect the peat and wetlands in the area. Additionally, there is recurring drought in some areas of the forest bed, causing issues for plant life there. There are 5.7 million square kilometers of Canadian Boreal Forest and roughly 6% of this is permanently protected. Another 4% is currently temporarily protected. There are 90 species listed as endangered (465 for all of Canada).
Aside from a small Provincial Park east of the Renwer area, the Boreal Forest of concern in this report is not protected lands. It is currently considered part of “Agro Manitoba”, the most densely populated part of Manitoba. Some measures are already in place, but the government is attempting to assist landowners with ways of preserving privately owned property for conservation into perpetuity.
The Renwer area is home to several animal species, but the only remotely upright animal of significant size is the American Black Bear.
Although they do have a period of dormancy during the winter, they do not fully hibernate. It would thus be possible for Mr. Motkaluk to have seen one on December 29, 1960 in the Boreal Forest at the back of his father’s farm tract. Realistically, since he had lived on the property for 20 years—all of his life—he would have known well what a black bear looks like. His certainty that what he saw was not a bear cannot be doubted.
What did Archie Motkaluk see that winter day? He saw an upright being, immediately thought to be human, walking at the edge of the woods. He was not under the influence of any alcohol or medication. He was a healthy 20 year old man, in the area to cut wood for the family farm.
Archie Motkaluk was one of 11 children who worked this family farm. He knew his way around animals, both domestic and wild. From about age 12 he was included in hunting parties to bring back game for food for the family. He knew how to use a gun, and in fact had one with him that day. He brought it because he knew he would be in the presence of animals, and poor farmers of the 1960’s would not pass up an opportunity to bring back meat if the occasion arose. He did not necessarily feel he needed protection; he simply was prepared for hunting if he saw anything worth bringing home. He had travelled the approximately 3 miles from the farmhouse with a team of horses and a small sleigh for carrying the firewood back. He tethered his horses to a tree that appeared to be dying, and he took his axe to the tree line. The area where the family gathered their wood was a relatively large clearing, about 400 square yards, which Mr. Motkaluk identifies as “about the size of four city blocks”. He had been there hundreds of times in his 20 years. He left the farmhouse at about 10am that day. It was not snowing, as the area had considerably less snow than normal that year. In fact, there were only about 4 or 5 inches of snow on the ground. He also recalls that it was not particularly cold, but in Manitoba that could still mean well below zero. Records indicate that a record high for the area was 10C on December 1, 1960 in Brandon, Manitoba, and the average high for the Renwer area at the end of December is about -10C. Average snowfall for the month of December there is 26cm and no records were set at any date near the time of Mr. Motkaluk’s event. Nearby Swan River historical weather data shows the high was -2C and the low was -14 with no new snow for the previous four days.
At the far end of the clearing, Mr. Motkaluk saw what he believed to be a man. It stood on two feet, completely upright, and he assumed it was one of the local farmers hunting for meat for the family. The man was walking slowly along the edge of the trees, stopping occasionally to pick and eat what Mr. Motkaluk believes was “cranberries and frozen chokecherries”. Boreal Manitoba native fruit species include the beaked hazelnut, blueberry, bog cranberry, buffalo berry, bunchberry, choke cherry, cloudberry, currant, elderberry, gooseberry, wild grape, hawthorn, high-bush cranberry, lingonberry, mountain ash, pin cherry, prickly pear cactus, wild raspberry, wild rose, Saskatoon, and wild strawberry. It is entirely possible that the creature was foraging for fruit left on the bushes and vines. Mr. Motkaluk continued to watch the “man” as he was chopping his wood. After about an hour, the “man was approximately 100 yards away. It was at that point Mr. Motkaluk noticed something was wrong.
By the time the creature was 50 yards away, Mr. Motkaluk believed he was seeing a Sasquatch. After graduating high school, he had worked for two years in the mines near Thompson, Manitoba. Many of the workers there told stories about the creature, and this sparked enough interest for Mr. Motkaluk to seek out magazine and newspaper articles on the subject. There weren’t many available at the time, but he says he would read anything he found on the subject. Through the stories and the articles, he believed that Sasquatch would only be found in British Columbia. With a mere 50 yards between them, Mr. Motkaluk stopped chopping wood and watched. The creature came to within 8 to 10 feet of where he was standing. Mr. Motkaluk is 6’4” tall and at that time weighed about 220 pounds. He describes the sasquatch as slightly shorter and about 325 pounds; and female. He could not see genitalia, but breasts were clearly evident. The two stared at each other and the creature made snarling, hissing, groaning, and grunting sounds, as well as grinding its teeth. This went on for what seemed like 6 or 7 minutes. Then the animal stopped making noise and they continued to stare at each other for an additional 4 or 5 minutes. Mr. Motkaluk says he felt frozen to the spot, unable to move. Eventually, he was able to take a step back. When he did so, the Sasquatch also took a single step back. They continued this pattern, with each taking two or three steps backward until they were about 20 yards apart. The Sasquatch turned and again began foraging for food, and Mr. Motkaluk returned to his sleigh.
Once seated on the sleigh, he began to relax and ate his lunch. He then took his axe—and this time his rifle—and went back to chop wood. The Sasquatch was still there, watching him.
Because of the close proximity, Mr. Motkaluk was able to get a quite detailed description. He says the Sasquatch was covered in very fine hair, dark brown in color. The hair was no longer than one inch and was shiny, much like a domestic house cat. It had a light brown face without hair, although the hair did continue onto its neck. Only the back of its ears had fur. He describes the visage as that of a “middle aged aboriginal with a stern face”. Its teeth were wider than normal human teeth, he estimated about 5/8 of and inch wide. There were no distinct canines (or fangs as he described them) leading Mr. Motkaluk to believe the Sasquatch was strictly a vegetarian. The soles of its feet and the palms of its hands were grey, and the tops of each had the same fine hair. Mr. Motkaluk said it “looked very human” and nothing at all like a monkey or other primate. The arms were proportional to the body in the same way as a human. The fingers were a bit fat, but not disproportional to the overall size of the animal. He likened it to photos he has seen of Neanderthal Man. There was no distinct smell of any kind. The animal appeared very clean and well groomed. Its face was distinctly human. The nose was slightly larger than average, but definitely not flat like a primate. There were eyebrows of a darker color than the face, as well as very human looking eyes. He believes they were brown. Ears were clearly visible and looked human. He jokingly said what he saw was basically a 325 pound hairy woman.
Mr. Motkaluk said that many enthusiasts describe Sasquatch as having no neck but that is definitely not the case. What he saw had at least a 3 inch tall neck and was able to look from side to side without turning its body. He did say that he does not believe Sasquatch is capable of running, at least not fast. He describes the gait as a side to side wobble, again much like a large and heavy human woman or perhaps a child who is just learning to walk. He also said that from time to time the Sasquatch would have difficulty picking up the small berries from the ground or the bushes.
The Sasquatch stayed in the area with him for a total of about 4 hours. Mr. Motkaluk finished his wood chopping and loaded his sleigh and returned home. He is certain the Sasquatch was still standing there watching him when he left.
Archie Motkaluk returned to his family farm at about 4pm. His father reminded him to groom and stable the horses, and after that Archie went into the house. His mother was immediately concerned and asked what was wrong, saying he “looked white as a ghost”. Archie assured her there was nothing wrong and retired to his room where he wrote the whole incident down. He had no “regular” paper so he wrote it on brown paper bags. When he returned to his mother, she would not let up and urged him to tell her what was wrong. He told her of the sighting and she had him draw what he saw. His mom was an avid reader and knew of Sasquatch and never tried to tell him he was mistaken. He took his writings and drawings and put them in an envelope, where they stayed untouched in his basement in Winnipeg for nearly 50 years.
Mr. Motkaluk was raised Ukrainian Orthodox and still considers himself of that faith. He has had no other events in his life that he would consider paranormal. He has had recurring nightmares of the encounter, and for the first 10 years after the sighting he sought medical help to get to sleep. Otherwise, he doesn’t think the encounter has changed anything.
He was watching Outdoor Life Network (OLN) and was interested in a show about Bigfoot/Sasquatch. There was an “expert” from the Pacific Northwest who said that the phenomena were not real but rather a product of overactive imaginations. Mr. Motkaluk was outraged. He decided that his story needed to be told; until that time he had told nobody except his mother because when he would think about it he would become upset. His wife of almost half a century did not even know. He talked to her, and then he rewrote his notes into an article and attempted to get it printed in the Winnipeg Free Press. Because it was 11 pages long, they refused to run it so he took it to the Winnipeg Sun. They questioned him for two hours about what he had seen and finally decided he wasn’t lying. They promised to run his article, but in fact ran only a small human interest piece based on the interview. Since then he has been on the radio once, and was promised to be brought back for a call in show. That never materialized because the station felt it had become “old news”. Mr. Motkaluk is clearly frustrated with media and is not seeking any fame or recognition with his sighting experience. He has not attempted to “sell” his “story” in any fashion. He said he had been contacted by researchers from all over North America, about 200 people in his estimation.
I spoke with Mr. Motkaluk for well over an hour on a Friday evening via telephone. I found him to be very likeable, of at least average intelligence, and very proud of his “farm boy” heritage. I saw no signs of mental illness, including Alzheimer’s, nor do I believe he manufactured his sighting. I encouraged him to protect his original notes and drawings and to carefully select someone to receive them when he is no longer able to keep them. Although his exposure to discussion of Sasquatch prior to his sighting is somewhat problematic, what he describes is not typical media information.
Mr. Motkaluk’s testimony is compelling in its detail and the supporting possibilities—dense forestation, minimal human population, abundance of vegetation for subsistence—makes a good case for the acceptance that the Sasquatch phenomenon is real. I’m convinced that it is definitely real for him, and likely for his family members who now know the story.

This story was reported by Bill Mason of Winnipeg, it is a telephone interview he did with a woman, that claims her father had shot and killed a strange creature on their farm..
A Mrs. Joyce A. Russell called me with the following, 82 years old at the time, ...She claimed that in the year 1927 or 1928 while living on a farm in the area of Marchand Manitoba, 8 to 10 miles east of town, her father shot and killed a strange creature. She said that it was about 5 1/2 feet tall, with a "fat" belly and long arms. It was covered in long ,"oily" hair. ( She said she remembered how it, the hair, felt !) It's eyes were all black, with no white showing ( odd). She said that she remembered this creature hanging around the farm for a long time, a summer, and her father was afraid for the family cow, so he finally shot the creature. She remembered that her two brothers and her father, she tagged along being young, went and buried the creature in the bush behind the farm in the area they buried trash etc... She remembered, when questioned further, the body laying on it's back with it's eyes and mouth open. It had been shot in the upper back. I asked her if she thought it might have been human, to whick she replied, "at the time, we thought it may have been, but my Father wanted to get rid of it quickly because of the smell it was making. He thought it was rolling in manure in the field where they kept livestock. She recalled the thing being around the farm in the evenings and mornings and remembered strange sounds , hoots and a sound she said was like a "wheeee" sound. She claimed it was a sad sound not frightning. As to the sight of the buried body, she recalls it being in a clump of evergreen trees behind and away from the farm buildings where all the "waste" was put. This was all relayed to me via phone call, as she was visiting Winnipeg from the BC interior, and had seen one of the cards I used to distribute around various places at the time. This is a strange report, but happened so long ago that details are now difficult if not impossible to follow up. At the time I questioned some old timers in the area and they all recalled nothing about this. But, if the family kept it to themselves, that is not surprising I suppose.

First of all I live up in Northern manitoba Canada, growing up I’ve been living in the woods with my grandparents knowing how to hunt fish and other things, they would teach me the calls and sounds of animals, one night when playing outside with friends at night in a baseball field around our small community of 20 houses, we heard a loud screaming noise coming from back of one of the houses, we stopped playing and listen to it for a bit, then we heard a second one coming from down the lake, first we thought it was just an echo, but when the first one would stop the second one will go off, back and forth they called out, so us kids we had a pretty big group of 10 or more, went to towards the lake, we got close to the sounds and it was just in the bush down a hill from the road, we started tossing rocks into the bush trying to get what ever was in there to come out, we got a really good response back, it gave out a loud aggressive scream with lots of bushes being thrashed around, we all ran to one of the houses, but the people who were in there were drinking and told us to go home and forget about it, the next day we went back with 3 adults and we could see footprints on the beach leading up to the woods where we tossed the rocks at, we followed them in, we found what looks like a bed made from tall grass and branches, the adults told us to leave the area, I guess they destroyed the footprints and the bedding area, as for the one behind the house we didn’t go looking for it as we got scared what we found earlier.
This encounter happened to me when I was 17 years old, I was out visiting late night and was told to go home, I didn’t mind walking home at night as I always used to walk home all the time in the dark because we had night school due to the population of the community growing fast, elementary and jr high would start in the morning and high school in the afternoon, as fall was approaching the days were shorter, I would get out of school at 8:30 in the evening, sometimes I would not jump the bus and head out and visit after school and not go home, and I live far from the school and out of the community, I walk 9 km to get home from the school, and when I walk home it’s a long dark road with no street lights or people that walk down that road, so anyways I was walking home one night and I got to the road where the street lights stop at, I looked down the road and had this feeling that something was going to happen to me, but I thought to my self I walked this road so many times before, so I started to walk down the road pushing against the North wind, I could barely see as it was getting really foggy out from the cold temperature outside, as I was walking I looked up ahead and could see a some head lights from a vehicle probably around 1km away, as I was looking forward I seen this big tall figure walking out on to the road probably 100 feet away from me, I could see it’s long arms and the road was wide that you could used it for a 4 lane road, this figure walks across it like nothing with out running and with only 4 steps, I stopped in my tracks thinking of what I just seen shocked and frightened, as I was standing there the truck that was down the road drove passed me, I couldn’t think of anything else but that thing I seen, I snapped out of it and though I should turn around, but I was already halfways home, so I thought to my self if this thing attempts to attack me I will stand my ground, I had two lighters in my pocket and I held them in both hands, I would flick them and yell as loud as I can, that was my plan so I started to walk the rest of the way home, as I was walking I can hear cracks in the bush next to me, when I stopped it would stop, I can tell this thing was following me from the bush next to the road, I didn’t want to run and give it a reason to think I know it was there watching me, so I walked as slow as I can with out making a noise so I could hear if it was flowing me still, but it was still watching me following me, so when I could see a vehicle coming towards me I would run as fast as I can towards it, I would try and wave it down but won’t stop, I had 3 trucks drive past me, I would of jumped in front of them but it was foggy out and probably would of got hit and hurt bad or killed, so I kept walking when they passed me at a steady pace, I made it home relieved and scared, I went straight to my room and went to bed, well the next day I never told anyone about it, till I seen one of my teachers looking scared and could tell she was thinking of something, this was two days after I seen Bigfoot and I had a good feeling it was due to all the Bigfoot shows I seen, so I asked her what was wrong and bothering her, she replied “ you won’t believe me John, as I was walking home I seen something big with long arms and legs walked in front of me and my dog” I said “ I believe you are telling the truth and are not crazy, just the night before you seen it, I seen it, it followed me home” That’s my story, I never really talked about it to people, I was scared to think that people would start calling me crazy, but I know what I seen and believe it was Bigfoot. I like to think why I seen it was because the head lights from the truck down the road and fog and the wind had a big part in why Bigfoot walked out in from of me with out him knowing I was there, must of been distracted, but must of seen me after the truck went past us, lucky me.
We actually had a man that was writing books about Canadian monsters and legends a few years back, can’t remember his name but he came here and we took him out to listen and you could actually hear Bigfoot howling and screaming at nights, just last year about 6 people were in a cabin that had power just on the highway were I had my encounters , they were all watching a movie and they could hear something breathing really heavy and loud outside at night, on the side of the cabin right next to the bed with only logs between them, they were thinking it was a bear so they kept watching movies and didn’t bother with it, the next morning they went to take a look, they found a big foot print right next to the wall in the mud, you could see it perfect, I had a photo of the track but lots my phone and got a new one, it was probably around 13 inches.

Evidence of Sasquatch Around Churchill Manitoba
Submitted by Robert Spence
There was a total of 7 prints found along the shoreline at the Swallow Rapids on the Churchill River
They came out of the water and they went parallel along to the shoreline of the river into the willows then straight up a steep hill
I know they’re not human because the stride in between them was 7 feet apart toe to heel each stride was the same
Straight in line and not staggered like a humans
One foot directly in front of the other
Totally impossible way of walking to be a humans
I was with a learned bushman and a close friend he is non native from Ottawa
We were doing sturgeon studies on the Churchill River
The very first time I went up there was in the late 80’s with a younger guy to do Sturgeon work we heard the loud moaning screaming kind of yell of a large sort of being
I grew up on the land all of my life what ever it was that was screaming yelling and moaning loud was not human or animal
The area we heard this was just a couple kilometres from where I found the footprints just a few years ago
The time we heard the screaming yelling and loud moaning we also heard the Bigfoot breaking large trees and snapping trees as it walked away from us as if we had upset it and got it mad for intruding on its territory
We were fishing for supper when we had the experience
There’s tripods of trees stood up here and there in different places around the river every now and then as if to tell me "I’m also here"
No one else goes to the area I have my cabin at now
It’s my trapline and I have a cabin there now I was so intrigued by the experiences I’ve had there I had to build my cabins there
I tell everyone who comes there not to be alarmed if they hear anything or notice anything like structures
Every now and then they come by and mark the area with a structure or two
My cousins smelled it up close to the cabin one night and didn’t go out till morning because they were too afraid to go outside
They still don’t understand why I built my cabin there
I just say to them our people have lived for thousands and thousands of years with them why would they hurt us now and if they wanted to we’d all most likely wouldn’t be so close to the land anymore

STRANGE SIGHTING NEAR STEINBACH MANITOBA!
On Sunday February 18, 2018, a young woman was returning from visiting a friend in Steinbach Manitoba, traveling home towards Winnipeg on hiway 52, when something very unusual ran extremely fast across the road. She described it as been on all fours, grey in color, but twice the size of a coyote, with curly or matted looking fur. It did not have a tail and she did not notice any ears sticking up from the head, which really baffled her. She said this creature was very creepy and unusual looking, she has seen coyote, deer and other animals that are normally in the area, but she has never seen anything quite like this. She did not see the face, but claims the head was really rounded, that's when she realized she could not see any ears.
The surrounding area has open fields, wetlands, grasslands, forests, the Tourond creek, and also several pig farms. The sighting occured very near the Tourond Creek Discovery Center.

Submitted by Bill Mason February 21, 2018 - Creature Crosses Road Near Birds Hill - The date was in July 1982, mid afternoon and the sighting lasted less than a minute. Jackie Coley called me, Bill Mason, and told me the following; She saw what she described as a brown creature that ran like an ape, meaning it used it's front legs (arms) while running. She said the face was defined, and it was bear sized . It was solid and heavy and moved at great speed. It crossed the road 100 to 150 infront of her. It's head was oval, flat nose, wide mouth , protruding forehead and large round eyes. She said that the sighting took place close to Lorne Hill and Deacon in Birdshill , down the road 1 1/2 miles and left at the fork. That is all that I have on it. I do remember speaking with her on the phone and trying to arrange a meeting, but for what ever reason it never happened.
Myself and a companion took a drive to that area February 24, 2018. Even though the area has changed a lot since the actual sighting with new homes and other developments, the area is still very wooded. We seen plenty of game trails coming from the forests, which indicates there is a very large deer population. There is tree cover, plenty of wildlife, and water in the area, that could support a sasquatch family, I am sure.
Sent to Sasquatch Canada December 9, 2016 - Hello candy this is a photo of a cell phone you might find interesting , the photo was taken in the buffalo inclosure at lake Audie riding mountain park summer of 2016 , I got it from a friend and it was her friend that took it , it was raining at the time of the picture , this is all the information that I know and the person who took the picture wants to remain anomanous |

Some notable Sasquatch sightings in Manitoba, courtesy of Chris Rutkowski, local researcher and author of all things UFO, Bigfoot or ghost related:
Aug. 23, 1968: Just east of Katimik Lake, three men stopped their vehicle when they saw something walk out of the bush and cross the road. It had short hair all over its body and was about eight feet tall. Similar sightings were reported over the following two years in the Easterville area.
November 1970: A teacher, school principal and another passenger were driving to the Easterville school from Grand Rapids when they saw a seven-foot-tall creature with “shaggy” hair all over its body at the side of the road. By the time they stopped and backed up, the creature had gone.
September, 1973: Bob Uchtmann, a conservation officer near Landry Lake (west of The Pas), found 18-inch footprints in compacted ground. They were 28 inches apart, indicating an extremely long stride. The cast of the footprint is on display in The Pas museum.
June 1975: A young couple were parked on a lonely road three miles south of Beausejour at about 3 a.m. when they were interrupted by scratching sounds. Unnerved, they drove away. The man dropped his girlfriend at home and returned to the spot — where he soon heard a loud thumping at the back of the car and saw “a huge hairy thing leaning on the trunk.” It looked like a large ape, with a round head set directly onto wide shoulders. He drove off as fast as he could. When he checked his car the next day, he found scratches on the trunk. The man’s parents confirmed to investigators that he was scared to leave the house for the next few days.
July 5, 1975: Two youths from Long Plains First Nation noticed a “shadowy dark figure about eight or nine feet tall” behind their home about 1:30 a.m. The next morning they found huge footprints.
July 8, 1975: Not far from the Long Plains sighting, a farmer north of Rathwell saw a figure walking toward his truck. Its arms and legs were exceptionally long, and its head rested directly on its shoulders. When it saw the farmer, it immediately turned and headed for the river, turning back to look for any pursuit. The sighting lasted about 10 minutes.
1979: A family near Steinbach reported a series of episodes involving broken branches, strange noises and rotten odours around their farm. Finally, on July 10, one family member saw an 11-foot-tall creature about 100 feet from the house. It was “hairy all over,” with “a big head.” It left footprints about 18 inches long and eight inches wide.
June 7, 1990: North of West Hawk Lake, a woman was forced to stop her car at about 1 p.m. for a tall creature on the road. It was six to seven-feet tall, with dark, “patchy” wet and matted hair on its body. Later, eight footprints were found, each about 18 inches long and nine inches wide.
Oct. 2001: At about 5 p.m., a Pas resident saw a huge creature near some bush on the edge of town. “I saw a very tall human-like thing that looked about eight feet tall, hairy all over and had brown fur. He was walking in the park coming from somewhere and heading toward the bush. It happened so fast I just didn’t know what to do.”

He was walking in the park coming from somewhere and heading toward the bush. It happened so fast I just didn’t know what to do.”

hello Candy i will tell the story as relayed by my grand children and great niece and nephew , they are Maiyha and Ava age 7and Blayse and JT age 11 . on a warm evening on august 18 2012 we were at a seasonal camp site close to the stevenfield goverment campground in Manitoba . across the road from the camp site is a large bush with a small clearing close to the road , as we were all sitting around after supper we noticed a couple of white tail deer feeding in the clearing , we watched them for quite a few minutes a then some people came walking down the road and the deer went back into the bush. the kids were curious and went across the road to se what the deer were eating , when they got there they saw a bunch of apples and a salt lick block , they also noticed a ruff grouse hen with a few young chicks of to the side in the bush , the by the cicks JT saw something move and said to Blayse what is that, blayse said i don t know maybe its a bigfoot. all the kids were standing in different spots but they describe the same thing , the bigfoot was about twenty feet away and in the leafy part of the bush , when he moved he was in a stooped down and forward possition whith its arms bowed by its side , my grand daughter Maiyha described that she thought it was a male with dark brown to blackish hair , she said the hair hung off its arms about three inches long and she could see the dark skin underneath , she said it was very wide and had a larger than human head. she said that even though it was stooped over and crouched down the top of its head was still over six feet tall . she describes the face as dark skined with little hair its eyes were dark green whith white around the edges , she could see the eyes moving back and forth as it was standing motionless, i think the bigfoot thought the kid could not see him. the most striking thing she remembered was its nose which she said wad like a humans only flatter and wider at the bottom. after looking at it they became spooked and ran back to the campsite and very excitedly described what happenend , Ava said it kinda looked like a big monkey as they told what happened. i was a little sceptical to start with but months and even a year later the kid tell the same story and the details do not change . the kids live in different citys . blayse also said he thought the bigfoot was going to catch one of the grouse when they got there because the grouse were right in front of him . i have shown Maiyha many images of bigfoot on line to see if there are some similaritys the ones she says are the closest are the one picture Todd Standing has on his sight and the video of bigfoot taken thru the tent screen and also your logo on sasquatch , what i found funny was me and the grankids were watching the movie harry and the hendersons and i asked the kids if thats what they saw and Miayha said ,o no that is fake the one i saw looked different , i have had a few other experiances myselfe , i have heard them and seen tracks in the snow by our cabin by Lavenham Manitoba and i have a couple of friends that have seen one if you are interested in those storys you can call me.

Report Submitted April 6, 2013 To Sasquatch Canada
I was camping for a week in Duck Mountain Park . One evening I was fishing on Two Mile Lake on the Dock around 7pm. It was clear and calm when I heard water. I looked up and watched a up right two legged human like figure walk through the channel of water that connects the two lakes. Now it only took four or five steps for this thing to get through the water with no struggles of getting stuck in the mud. The arms swung bag and forth like a human like way but no man would of ever got through that the way it did. I was in shock what I had seen and I do believe I saw a Bigfoot and now believe they are out there.
When Did This Incident Occur?
June 2000 Spring
What time of day or night did the incident occur? In which state or province did the incident occur? Also describe the lighting conditions and weather conditions at the time of the incident, or any other details that may be relevant, such as sounds, smells etc.
It was around 7pm calm and clear. No smells I went for a drive to see where it went but it was gone.

Waterhen Aug. 2011 (reported Nov. 9, 2012) -
2 teenage boys, 16, were spotlighting for deer in a field along a tree line, when they heard a growl, the teen swung the light across the area the growl came from and they spotted the Sasquatch turning it's back to them and walking away at a fast pace. After the boys heard the growl, the boy telling me the story, put 2 slugs in his shotgun, lifted it and took aim. When the light showed what growled, he couldn't shoot, he said the slug would have bounced off it anyway.
The teen described the back of the head and shoulders covered in mixed dark brown / black hair, and he could see the back of it's calf, the rest of the body was blocked by a downed tree. Unfortunately he did not see it's face.
They are native kids that grew up in the country, hunting and hiking their whole lives, they knew for a fact that it was not a bear that they seen, anyway a bear would not turn and walk away on it's hind legs. Personally I believe this story, I know the circumstances that prompted him to come forward, there was absolutely no reason for him to come up with this story out of nowhere. I showed him the PG video, he said the sasquatch he seen walked away faster than Patty. As for size, he said 'it was bigger than me!"

A young man told me a while ago about an encounter him and a couple of buddies had about 5 years ago (2007). There was 3 or 4 of them, grade 9 students, hiking around in the bush just before dawn, a little foggy, when they heard leaves crunching behind them. They all turned to look at the same time and seen a 9-10 foot 'monster' cross the path and walk into the bush. He said they all 'shit' their pants and took off running high speed back to the house. He couldn't remember where this took place, and he finally asked one of the guys that was with him, and it turns out that they had this encounter just outside of St. Anne. I was really surprised to hear that, I have not heard of a report come from that area. He couldn't say how wide the 'monster' was cause of the angle they seen it, or the color, other than being a dark color. They called it a monster until they actually talked about what it really could be, a sasquatch was what all of the agreed on what they saw.
St. Anne Mb. is approximately a 50 minute drive, SE from Winnipeg.

Tall manlike creature seen while on a family outing near The Pas
YEAR: 2007
SEASON: Spring
MONTH: May
PROVINCE: Manitoba
COUNTRY: Canada
LOCATION DETAILS: Near Clearwater Lake Prov. Park.
Specific location withheld to protect the witness.
NEAREST TOWN: The Pas
NEAREST ROAD: Hwy 10 and Clearwater Lake Hwy
OBSERVED: I am reporting on behalf of my son. He is a very truthful child. He has never been able to forget what he saw that day so we have decided to report to the organization about the encounter for the benefit of research.
My son was out in the forest, as he loves to do, near Clearwater Lake that spring day in 2007. Most of the time he does not become separated from family, but this time he did lose track of them, they were not to far off but missed the sighting. Also note, this is the time of year when you easily reach into the stream and grab fish right out of the water. Anyways, he stopped at the entrance of the trail that leads into a wooded area. He clearly saw a very tall manlike creature scraping on tree with both hands then pounding with one hand raised upward. The sound was loud. With a very human like action he paused, turned his head and body and looked at the boy. My son became shocked, cried and left the trail area having viewed the manlike creature within a couple of minutes. His description is that creature was almost approx... the height of our living room ceiling (8 ft.) as I asked him to use a comparison. When asked if male or female, he couldn't be sure but stated possibly male. He was dark, black, long and/or medium hair that appeared dirty, short hair on face but not covering the eyes or mouth areas, slightly peaked head but still rounded, I asked him to draw a shape and it looked like an upside down between a V and U. He also remembers the massive arms and hunched over appearance. Sometimes he is unwilling to talk about it.
ALSO NOTICED: no sounds other than the tree knocking, no one went back to the exact spot to look for evidence.
OTHER WITNESSES: none, the child's relatives were approx. 200 ft. away and did not see the creature.
OTHER STORIES: yes, there are many other credible reports from this general area including Big Eddy, Watchi Bay and Rocky Lake, but they have not all been reported. I will encourage them to send the details of their sightings to the BFRO. It amazes me that the manlike creature co-exists with people and have no or very few conflicts with humans, but this is the north and thousands of Km's are unexplored leaving the creature alot of area to call his own.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: early evening before dark perhaps cloudy but not raining
ENVIRONMENT: Heavy Boreal Forest with approx. 30% decidous and 70% coniferous tree's close to Clearwater Lake... is swampy in places, large lichens that hang from the trees, low juniper bushes, spawning fish are abundant in the spring, fresh clean water
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Blaine McMillan

Second Bigfoot Sighting in Norway House, Manitoba
updated with recorded howls....
Listen to t he 2006 Tilda Halcrow recording in Norway House, Manitoba May 2006
A second bigfoot sighting has been reported by a young girl, and her play mates in Paupanekis Point, Norway House, Manitoba, which is located on the south end of the same First Nations reserve where ferryman, Bobby Clarke, videotaped a large, dark, bipedal creature walking along the bank of the Nelsen River.
The girls were close to a residential area, which borders the woods, at around 7:30-8:00 pm on May 20, when the encounter occurred. The woods are bordered by knee high grass, which is where the creature was standing in plain view, apparently watching the children play. One of the girls fainted from fright, after seeing "a huge creature." None of the children were hurt, but they are understandably still quite shaken, and afraid to be left alone.
Immediately following the sighting, a search party was assembled to investigate the surrounding area. Footprints were found where the actual sighting occurred, as well as deeper into the woods. Several more expeditions have been conducted since, and have resulted in finding more physical evidence. The size of some of the tracks measure "larger than a man`s size 16 shoe" said one witness, and have a clearly defined outline of the toes. The tracks have been preserved, photographed, and videotaped by Norway House residents.
Hair samples have also been found at several locations, including on the inside edge of one of the footprints, and at another location, clinging to a pine tree where more tracks, and a strong lingering odor was also reported. The odor was described to be a mix between wet dog, and skunk. A witness who has collected some of the hair samples reported, "I thought they would be thick and course and black, but they look kinda longish, half black and half white and (on some) the very bottom looks almost fine and spliced up like a fine razor split the hairs into many on one single strand."
The physical evidence collected following the most recent sighting raises some interesting questions. Where as the Nelson River tracks measured 20 inches in length, with a six foot stride, in Paupanekis Point, tracks measuring 13 inches in length, as well as 20 inches have been found. Also, hair samples given to the ACA`s expedition team were dark in color, according to a member of the team, yet the hair samples found after the second sighting are half black, and half white.
Some Norway House residents have theorized that the smaller prints may belong to a juvenile, and that it has possibly wandered away from an adult/parent, which might explain the ongoing incidents surrounding Norway House, including the frequent howls coming from wooded areas close to homes. Bobby Clarke also reported hearing strange howls on several occasions preceding his sighting.
Although details are still sketchy, a third encounter in which the creature is said to have returned to the same area as the second sighting, moving large rocks in it`s path has been reported. Other photos:http://blogcritics.org/archives/2005/05/31/171547.php
This rash of sightings is not the first in this area. In 1976, multiple sightings, spread over a length of time, were reported in Poplar River, 76 miles south of Norway House.
The following is the report submitted to the Vancouver Lower Mainland Division of the RCMP, following a police investigation.
Norway House to Vancouver Lower Mainland Division, attn: Sergeant Doane
It was reported to our office on the 26 July 76 by the chief of the Poplar River Indian Band that many of his people have sighted on the reserve many times a large hairy animal that walks on two legs. Poplar River is located approx. 76 miles to the south of Norway House.
An investigation was conducted and the results are as follows:
Several people were interviewed and they all stated that the animal was approximately seven to eight feet tall and was very broad at the shoulders. It had the general body structure of a man only many times larger. A foot cast was taken of the foot impression that was left behind by the so-called monster and is held at this detachment. It measures 16 inches by 5 inches, and has only 3 toes. It's fur is a glossy gray color and it has white hair on it's head. They stated that it was very powerfully built and one man reported that he saw it swimming. To date there have been no further reports of sightings in our area. It should be noted that this so-called monster seemed very inquisitive towards the people and would come around the houses on the settlement and look in doors and windows." ...1976 Norway House RCMP Report (Rocky Mountain Mounted Police)

Albert Klyne shows off the statue he made of the creature he says he spotted near his home in 2001. (Jason Halstead, Sun Media).Tilt your head, to see the proper configuration of the object he carved.
He calls himself a sort of Dr. Frankenstein, but Albert Klyne isn’t worried about his creation coming to life.
What concerns the 63-year-old, is whether his muse will come back now that his masterpiece is near complete.
“It gave me creepy feelings while I was making it, like a guy creating Frankenstein or something,” said Klyne, who has almost finished a statue he calls Neandertal Man — a life-size replica of the giant, caveman-like creature he claims to have encountered seven years ago on his acreage south of Portage la Prairie.
“Seeing him had quite an effect on me, so I felt making this was something I had to do,” he said. “Imagine that thing, a thing like a giant.”
Klyne said he caught a shadowy glimpse of the brute some 30 years ago and thinks he heard it crying from a distance when he was a boy. But he got his first clear look at the unidentified creature on April 5, 2001, when it followed a pack of turkeys that appeared to be injured out of some backyard brush accompanied by a mysterious black dog.
The creature — which wore a loincloth and carried a hunting knife of sorts — wasn’t menacing in any way other than its size, Klyne said.
Still, the encounter stuck in Klyne’s mind and so the previously inexperienced artist decided to memorialize it.
The former tradesman constructed the statue’s massive frame from wire and wood, then filled it with stuffing and fibreglass insulation before shaping his smooth, muscular exterior from stucco.
Four Meters Tall
The sedentary Neandertal Man now stands nearly four metres tall, wears a deerskin loin cloth and — to match Klyne’s recollection — boasts chiselled abdominal muscles along with broom-bristle hair.
“I think if he got on a weigh-scale, (the actual creature) would have been about 2,000 pounds,” said Klyne, who spent more than 3,000 hours and $800 to produce the approximately 400-pound statue.
At the prompting of his wife and in fear of causing a public panic, Klyne kept his sighting silent for nearly a decade. But now that the statue is finally constructed, he plans to display it at area fairs in an attempt to find others who may have been impacted by its massive physique.
“The effect that thing had on me, it has to be world-known,” Klyne said. “When I saw it, it seemed like I couldn’t draw enough air, like after running a marathon but I didn’t do nothing, I just seen it. I seen it and it played me out.”
